What do you treasure most?

Jesus said our hearts always follow what we value. For some, it’s money or recognition. For others, it’s comfort or control. But Scripture calls us to treasure Christ above all, because what we value most directs our choices and shapes our legacy.

In today’s devotion, you’ll hear the story of Jim Elliot, who gave his life while bringing the gospel to the Waodani people of Ecuador. His famous words, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose,” remind us that when Christ is our treasure, our hearts follow Him into eternal purpose.

Main Scripture:

Matthew 6:21 – “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

By the end of this episode, you’ll discover:

Why your heart follows what you treasure most
How treasuring Christ gives peace, purpose, and eternal reward
A simple step to realign your priorities today

Today’s Challenge:

Take ten minutes to ask yourself: “What do I treasure most?” Write down your answers. Then pray, “Lord, let my heart follow You as my greatest treasure.”

Jim Elliott wrote in his college journal that still makes me stop and think. He wrote, he is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot And he didn't mean it as a slogan. He meant it as a way to live. Not long after, he sensed God calling him to Ecuador to share the gospel with the Woldani, a remote and often violent tribe. He married Elizabeth, teamed up with four friends and then he trained and then they prayed together. They prepared for their trip and after months of planning, they landed a small plane on the sandbar along the Curare River and began making cautious contact. The day finally came when they met the tribe's people face to face on that river beach.

Welcome to Daily Devotions for Busy Lives. I am Bart Leger and today we are talking about treasure. Not gold coins or money in the bank, but the things we value most. Jesus said where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. What you value most will pull your heart in that direction. And that's what Jesus said in

00:01:14.650 --> 00:01:50.703
21, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. What happened when Jim Elliott and his fellow missionaries met the tribe for the first time? Well, it didn't go the way they hoped. The encounter turned and all five men were killed. But the story didn't end in the sand. In time, Elizabeth Elliott, Jim's wife and others returned to the very people who had taken their loved ones. They brought forgiveness and they lived among the people and many in the tribe came to faith in Jesus.

00:01:53.373 --> 00:02:42.896
And death tell the truth of Matthew 6: 21. His treasure wasn't safety or comfort or even recognition. His treasure was Christ and the people Christ loves. And his heart followed his treasure all the way. And the same is true for us. What we treasure most becomes a compass of our lives. If money is our treasure, then our heart will always be chasing more money. If recognition is our treasure, our heart will always be restless when people don't notice us. But if Christ is our our heart will follow into peace. In him, we will find our purpose and then ultimately, our eternal reward.

00:02:36.997 --> 00:02:49.187
